alanna harms-wiebe revival arts studio

Alanna Harms-Wiebe will be working with us this summer helping to keep us organized, the kids happy and our clients well looked after. We are so excited to have her as we are in need of someone to help us stay on top of things!

There are so many things that make Alanna a great fit for our studio! To start with you can now order your photography in Portuguese, German or French in addition to English as she is quadrilingual. She was also the Student of the Year at W.J. Mouat where she will be returning next year to graduate. On top of her academic studies, she enjoys visual arts, music (voice lessons), humanitarian work and track and field. But best of all, she’s just down right nice.

pic of the week: ad layouts

Filed under: commercial, pics of the week, product — browns @ 12:28 am

I (Jason) did some more mock ad layouts in commercial photography at Langara College the past couple weeks. They are a bit dated - but it was more about the process of shooting for the layout than the actual ad content :).

The first layout was a GAP fragrance ad (using a model friend from our neighborhood):

The second is an ad for a financial company - and it was made in two stages. The first shot was the gentleman lying on a white background. Finally, we shot the shoebox with the tissue paper on the wood planks. Photoshop was used to carefully merge the two images:

pic of the week : studio portrait

Filed under: pics of the week — browns @ 1:55 am

This series of portraits was designed to be a technical exercise in studio lighting. Thanks to my (Darcie) rocking classmates and cooperative model, we ended up with some pretty cool shots.

One light. We made sure the studio was completely dark and then fired the flash and left the shutter open for 1 second to balance the light on her face in the ball.

One light with a modifier on it. We chose a grid to add drama. 8 second exposure.

Same light with the grid on it plus two reflector cards to add some light under her jaw and on her face.

Same light with grid, same reflector cards plus a backlight with a gel on it. We also had fans to give her a windswept look running the entire shoot.

kyrah : three year old portraits

Filed under: children, portraits — browns @ 12:32 am

Michelle brought her three year old daughter, Kyrah, for her session. We love it that Michelle books separate sessions for each of her kids. It makes for more relaxed portrait sessions that allow us to capture their individual personalities.

Kyrah was a little model and would move exactly as directed. She also had her signature pose which was a tilt of her head and a grin over her shoulder. Here are a few of our favorites …

lockhart group : celebration

Filed under: personal — browns @ 12:16 am

Rod, Karen and Lindsay Lockhart have worked hard to earn the title of our Realtors For Life. They give us great advice, know what they’re doing, are patient and are just all around nice people.

Today they had an celebration at their place and we had a blast. Xander and Lexi loved petting and holding their 12 adorable puppies. We all loved the obstacle course bouncy house. This was the first adult friendly one we’ve tried and now we know why kids like them so much. The food was great and we had burgers that were significantly larger that our mouths.

Here are some pics of us having fun …
